Eve

I cold not put this book down. It seems like a good topic to write a book about right now is post-apocalyptic Earth. In Anna Carey's novel we follow Eve as she begins at an all girls' school. But when she finds out the horrible, horrible truth about what the girls are truly meant for, she runs away and encounters a group of rogue hunters. She meets Caleb, who slowly wins her trust and her heart. As her journey progresses Eve will  have to choose between the one she loves and her life.

Eve is an eerie, romantic adventure that is as unforgettable as it is beautiful.

Eve is a trilogy with Eve, Once, and Rise. I have not yet read the sequels, and to be quite honest, I don't think I will. Eve was, without a doubt, an amazing book but I just could not get into the series.

Everneath

Remember when I said that I love Greek and Roman mythology? Well Brodi Ashton puts a delicious twist on the Persephone myth with her book Everneath. We follow Nikki as she returns to the Surface from spending some time in the underworld, or Everneath. She has six months on the Surface before she has to return to the underworld and become Cole's (an inhumanly gorgeous immortal) queen. Nikki longs to spend her last six months reconnecting with her boyfriend, Jack, and saying goodbye to her family; the only problem? Cole has followed her to the Surface and will do just about anything to ensure Nikki's return to the Everneath.

There are plenty of good books with a different twist on the myth of Persephone, but this one is one of the best. If you love, love,  love the bittersweet and angst of Persephone, you will definitely enjoy Everneath.

Everneath is a trilogy with Everneath, Everbound, and an untitled third book that will be out in January of 2014.

Two Way Street

If your looking for a good beach read, this is it. Two Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt is definitely a good book to bring on vacation, in a long car ride (if you don't get sick like I do), or to a boring visit with your Aunt Pearl. The point of view goes back and forth between Courtney and Jordan, who happen to be exes. It can be a little confusing because of the perspective change and because there are a lot of flash backs, so just pay attention to those details if you decide to pick this book up and bring it home.

We follow Courtney and Jordan as they go on a road trip to visit their college. It just so happens that Jordan broke up with Courtney before the trip to be with a girl he met online. Courtney is trying to to care, but in a strange twist, Jordan does. Jordan just might have a secret or two that he's keeping from Courtney that have everything to do with why they broke up.

Movie Status: Probably not

The Goddess Test

Well, I've always been a fan of Greek (and Roman) mythology. I know most of the stories about the main gods and goddesses and this book was a refreshing twist. The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter is as chilling as it is beautiful. When I was reading I could really see the beautiful mansion and expansive gardens and beautiful gowns. This story is dangerous ans sexy and I love, love, loved it. To read more about the plot you're just going to have to get the book (:

This book is also the first in a series, The Goddess Test, The Goddess Hunt, Goddess Interrupted, and The Goddess Legacy.

Movie Status: It would be interesting, to say the least.

Ripple

There was a period about three months ago when I was totally obsessed with the idea of sirens. Not the kind that gives you that feeling of dread as you get pulled over by a cop, or the kind that makes you want to follow the big red truck to see where the fire is. I'm talking about the mythical kind. The so-called "mermaids" that sing beautiful, haunting songs to lure sailors to their wet, salty deaths. There are plenty of amazing books out there on them but Ripple, written by Mandy Hubbard caught my attention.

Hubbard truly makes you feel like you have to get in some kind of water as soon as possible. Her descriptions of of the desire to swim and the pain that Lexi (the main character) goes through when she is not in the water are so clear and vivid. 

The only problem I had with this book was that the plot wasn't very captivating. If you are into sirens and mythical creatures, this book has it. But if your looking for something with a little bit more pizzazz I would pass.

Movie Status: Probably never

Read It Status: Read it, but get it at the library.

Throne of Glass

I am spellbound by this read. I picked it up at a cute little bookstore in Wolfeboro, NH last summer and just started reading it a few weeks ago (it was lost in my suitcase for about ten months, whoops!). The strange names (Celaena Sardothian, Chaol, Erilea, Terrasen, Calaculla, etc.) might throw you off a little but it is so worth it. Sara J. Maas writes Celaena's story so, so well that you actually feel like you are in the glass castle with her. It is dark, mysterious, and sexy. You won't be able to get enough.

Celaena Sardothian is the most notorious assassin in Aderlan. She is collected from the slave mines to compete in the King's competition for a Champion. As strange event start occurring and grisly murders of Celaena's competitors start to worry the court Celaena uncovers a conspiracy at the Glass Castle.

I also believe that S. J. Maas is working on a much anticipated sequel.

Movie Status: This novel would be a box office success.

The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer - Trilogy

I am completely obsessed with this series. One hundred percent obsessed. Michelle Hodkin has done a spectacular job of telling Mara's story. In this master piece we follow this girl, who in the beginning says her real name is not in fact Mara Dyer, that she has to have an alias for reasons unknown to the reader (hopefully that will be explained in the third and final book), but goes by Mara throughout the first and second books. Mara has been through a terrible tragedy and wakes up in the hospital with no memory of what has landed her there. She, her (ex) boyfriend, and her friends Rachel and Claire were all inside an old abandoned Lunatic Asylum when it mysteriously collapsed. Mara was the only one who survived.

To get away from the memories and have a new start, Mara's family moves from Rhode Island to Florida where her and her older brother are enrolled in a fancy Prep school, Croyden. There she meets Noah Shaw. Mr. All That of Croyden high school. He has a renowned sexual reputation and has more money than he can live with. Romance blossoms between the two teenagers as Mara's PTSD symptoms worsen. She hallucinates, blacks out, and is pretty sure she can kill things with her mind.

I have so much to say about this series. First, I'm in love with Noah and Mara's relationship. They are so in love with each other that some of the dialogue -no joke- I highlighted and tagged the page. Some of the sweet things Noah says to Mara make my heart skip and I reread those parts probably three or four times. Second, this book has a little bit of everything. Mara has to deal with the death of her friends, the stress of moving, the stress of starting over at a new school, bullies, and mean teachers. Plus all of the weird stuff too. She can kill things with her mind, Noah's abilities, kidnapping, crazy Santeria priests, PTSD and all of the symptoms, and the fact that everyone thinks she's crazy because she thinks Jude(her ex-boyfriend) is still alive.

In the words of  Rachel Hawkins, author of Demonglass, "Read this one with the lights on".

The Evolution of Mara Dyer was just as hauntingly beautiful as its predecessor. I read the 550 page book in less than a day. I literally could not put it down and I still don't want to. Michelle Hodkin made it almost impossible not to immediately buy the third book when it finally comes out. SPOILER ALERT: There is a huge cliff hanger at the end of the second book, and I think I might die if I don't get my hands on the last book in the next three seconds.



















Movie Status: Please, please, please make a movie. I'm begging you!!!
